Description
Sporting activities of frequent bodily contact as rugby, football, ice hockey, field hockey, and lacrosse carry higher risk for oral injuries than others. Nearly one-third of all injuries to the dentition are from sporting activities. Impact of dental trauma includes psychosocial and economic a negative impact on quality of life as embarrassment, avoidance of social contact, and trouble eating. The definition of ‘sports dentistry,’ according to the Academy for Sports Dentistry in 2011 is: “Sports Dentistry’ involves the prevention and treatment of orofacial athletic injuries and related oral diseases, as well as the collection and dissemination of information on الصفحة 3 dental athletic injuries and the encouragement of research in the preventive of such injuries”.
