The Center for the Revival of Arab Scientific Heritage at the University of Baghdad organized a scientific seminar on the morning of Wednesday, October 14, 2026, entitled “Scholars from the City of Al-Dur.” The seminar was attended by a number of professors and researchers and was held in the Nabila Abdul Moneim Dawood Hall at the Center.

The seminar was delivered by Assistant Professor Dr. Iman Saleh Mahdi, a faculty member at the Center. She discussed the cultural and intellectual contributions of the city of Al-Dur and its role in supporting the scholarly movement in Iraq and the Islamic world.

During the lecture, the researcher reviewed the historical and geographical significance of the city and its distinctive location between Samarra and Tikrit. She also discussed its origins and development during the Abbasid era, particularly under the reigns of Caliphs al-Mu'tasim and al-Mutawakkil, highlighting the influence of its proximity to Samarra, the capital of the Abbasid Caliphate, on the movement and dissemination of scholarly activity in the region.

The researcher further highlighted the scholarly output of the city's inhabitants between the third and seventh centuries AH, explaining the city's geographical location and historical roots as documented in Abbasid sources. She also emphasized how its proximity to the caliphal capital of Samarra contributed to the emergence of a distinguished group of Qur'an reciters, Hadith scholars, and literary figures whose works enriched the Islamic intellectual heritage and library
