Topical silver diamine fluoride (SDF) is an efficient, affordable, effective, and safe cariostatic agent, which can be used in the management of dental caries in both deciduous and permanent teeth. It combines the remineralizing effect of fluoride and the antibacterial effect of silver, which together make SDF treatment more effective in controlling the carious lesions than many other fluoride treatments, such as sodium fluoride varnish.
