A Master's student defended their thesis in Agricultural Engineering Sciences on Agricultural Media.
The College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences at the University of Baghdad witnessed the viva voce of the Master's thesis entitled "Response of Some Herbaceous Plants to the Effects of Various Agricultural Environments and Spraying with Anti-transpirant in the Living Wall Agriculture System," presented by the student Ammar Mahmoud Shaker from the Department of Horticulture and Garden Engineering.
The researcher demonstrated the success of two agricultural environments, Vermi-compost and Nile Flower compost, as lightweight media for the successful cultivation of the mentioned plants in living walls. The best media were found to be Vermi-compost and Nile Flower compost. Agricultural treatments using Vermi-compost and Nile Flower compost significantly improved vegetative and root growth indicators for both the summer and winter seasons, for all studied plants.
The researcher recommended the use of other vertical farming systems to be tested in Baghdad's climate, such as plastic containers, in addition to exploring other vertical gardening irrigation systems like closed-loop systems to minimize water wastage and promote water recycling. It was also suggested to use local herbaceous plants like 'Shiha' (Artemisia herba-alba) and others, and test their effectiveness in vertical gardens.

رسالة ماجستير تناقشها علوم الهندسة الزراعية عن الأوساط الزراعية
شهدت كلية علوم الهندسة الزراعية جامعة بغداد مناقشة رسالة الماجستير الموسومة ( إستجابة بعض النباتات العشبية لتأثير الأوساط الزراعية المختلفة والرش بمانع النتح في نظام الزراعة بطريقة الجدران الحية )، للطالب عمار محمود شاكر من قسم البستنة وهندسة الحدائق .
بين الباحث نجاح الأوساط الزراعية البيتموس الفيرمي كومبوست وكومبوست زهرة النيل كأوساط خفيفة الوزن لنجاح زراعة النباتات المذكورة في الجدران الحية وكان أفضل الأوساط هو وسط الفيرمي وزهرة النيل ، وحققت معاملتا الزراعة بواسطة الفيرمي كومبوست ووسط كومبوست زهرة النيل تفوقاً معنوياً في تحسين مؤشرات النمو الخضري والجذري وللموسمين الصيفي والشتوي ولجميع النباتات المدروسة .
اوصى الباحث بإستخدام نظم اخرى للزراعة العمودية وتجربتها في مناخ منطقة بغداد مثل الأصص البلاستيكية فضلاً عن إستخدام نظم اخرى لري الحدائق العمودية مثل النظام المغلق لتقليل هدر المياه وإعادة تدويرها وإستخدام نباتات عشبية محلية مثل نبات الشيح وغيرهُ وتجربتها في الحدائق العمودية .
