Description

To give the important points of knowledge about antimicrobial resistance

To provoke awareness about the proper indication of antibiotics

Overuse and misuse of antibiotics are the leading causes of antimicrobial resistance. This happens when antibiotics are prescribed when they are not needed or when they are not taken as prescribed.

Antimicrobial resistance can lead to longer hospital stays, higher healthcare costs, and even death. Infections that were once easily treatable with antibiotics can become difficult or impossible to treat.

It is estimated that by 2050, antimicrobial resistance could cause 10 million deaths each year globally, and the economic cost could reach $100 trillion.

To prevent antimicrobial resistance, it is crucial to use antibiotics only when they are needed and to use them correctly. This means not using antibiotics to treat viral infections like the common cold, not stopping treatment early, and not sharing antibiotics with others.

Proper hand hygiene, such as washing hands with soap and water or using alcohol-based hand sanitizers, can help prevent the spread of infections and reduce the need for antibiotics.

Researchers are working to develop new antibiotics and alternative treatments for infections that are resistant to current antibiotics. However, the development of new drugs is slow and expensive, and there is no guarantee that they will be effective in the long term.

Overall, it is important to raise awareness about the proper use of antibiotics to prevent antimicrobial resistance and preserve the effectiveness of these life-saving drugs for future generations.
