On the morning of Sunday, September 20, 2026, the Center for the Revival of Arab Scientific Heritage at the University of Baghdad organized a scholarly seminar titled "Family Justice: Between Sharia and Law." Held in the Professor Nabila Abdul-Moneim Daoud Hall, the event was attended by a group of professors and researchers. The lecture was delivered by Prof. Dr. Anas Issam Ismail, a faculty member at the Center, who discussed the status of the family in Islam and emphasized the overarching divine principle of establishing justice, citing the Almighty’s words: "Indeed, Allah orders justice and good conduct and giving to relatives." The researcher addressed the practical dimensions of fairness within the family from both Sharia and legal perspectives, explaining that Islamic legislation and prevailing laws aim to foster tranquility and affection in marital life—in accordance with the Almighty’s words: "And of His signs is that He created for you from yourselves mates that you may find tranquility in them; and He placed between you affection and mercy"—and to uphold mutual rights. The researcher also highlighted a crucial aspect of the seminar regarding fairness among children, emphasizing its profound impact on their upbringing and the formation of their psychological and social identities. He noted that fairness and equality among children—regarding provision, affection, and upbringing—are both religious and legal imperatives; they prevent resentment and strengthen bonds of filial piety, in compliance with the divine command for justice—as stated in the Quranic exhortation to uphold equity both within and outside the home: "Be persistently standing firm in justice, witnesses for Allah, even if it be against yourselves or parents and relatives"—and in adherence to the Prophetic guidance calling for equal treatment of children. The seminar featured extensive interventions and discussions by the attending professors and researchers, who affirmed that upholding fairness within the family—whether between spouses or among children—is the optimal path to societal cohesion and protection.
