On the morning of Monday, September 28, 2026, the Center for the Revival of Arab Scientific Heritage at the University of Baghdad organized a workshop titled "The Role of Islamic Thought in Combating Extremist Behavior." The event was attended by professors, researchers, and specialists in academic and philosophical fields. Professor Dr. Anas Issam Ismail, a faculty member at the Center, delivered the lecture, shedding light on the foundational structure of extremism. He emphasized that extremist behavior is merely the product and direct reflection of a preceding deviant intellectual framework; indeed, thought acts as the primary guide and architect behind all human practices, whether sound or deviant. During the workshop, the lecturer noted that countering extremist ideology requires not so much the expansion of prisons and detention centers as the mobilization of pioneering, high-quality efforts—responsibilities that fall upon scholars, thinkers, tribal leaders, and influential societal figures. He stressed the importance of formulating and establishing moderate, centrist thought as a fundamental balancing element within civil society, serving as a genuine safeguard that protects the nation from strife and alien ideologies seeking to drag society toward the abyss. The workshop featured extensive interventions and discussions among the attendees, focusing collectively on the importance of collaboration between academic and societal institutions to bolster intellectual security and entrench the values of coexistence and social peace.
