Under the supervision of Professor Dr. Laith Majid Hussein, Director of the Center for the Revival of Arab Scientific Heritage at the University of Baghdad, the Manuscripts Department in our Center organized, on the morning of Thursday, 13/11/2025 at 10:00 a.m., and in the presence of a number of researchers and academics, a workshop titled “Private Education in the Historical Perspective and Its Impact on Iraqi Society.” The event was held in the lecture hall named after Professor Nabeela Abdul Monem Dawood.
Dr. Zainab Kamel Kareem (Professor) and Dr. Liqaa Shakir Al-Sharifi (Lecturer), both faculty members at our Center, delivered the lecture, discussing the significance of private education as one of the most important sectors in developed countries, given its role in preparing promising generations capable of development and innovation. They noted that in less developed countries, the private sector still does not play an effective role in society, as the state remains the largest and most capable institution in managing a sensitive and strategic field such as education.
The workshop aimed to shed light on the history of private education in Iraq and its societal roles, as well as to analyze the impact of this educational system on social values and community cohesion. It also sought to raise awareness of the importance of preserving private educational heritage as part of cultural identity and to open an academic dialogue on the possibility of benefiting from private-education experiences in developing contemporary education.
