ناقشت كلية العلوم للبنات بجامعة بغداد رسالة ماجستير بعنوان” دراسة النشاط البايولوجي للزيت الطيار لازهار نبات خف الجملBauhinia variegata L. في العراق” ، التي تقدمت بها الطالبة أساور طالب عويد لنيل درجة الماجستير في علوم الحياة / علم النبات ، تحت إشراف أستاذ مساعد دكتورة هديل مكي حبيب .
ركزت الدراسة على دور المركبات الفعالة الموجودة في الزيت العطري المستخلص من أزهار نبات خف الجمل في الأنشطة البايولوجية المختلفة كمضاد للأكسدة ومضاد للسرطان وذلك من خلال مقارنتها مع مجموعات السيطرة ، إذ أظهرت الدراسة قدرة الزيت العطري في كسح الجذور الحرة لما يحتوية من مركبات فعالة فينولية وتربينية كمضاد تأكسدي مقارنة مع مركبات السيطرة ( Ascorbic acid و Trolex).
تضمنت الدراسة تأثير الزيت العطري المعنوي في تثبيط نمو الخلايا السرطانية ، إذ ظهرت فروق معنوية ذات دلالة احصائية أثبتت قدرته التثبيطية لسرطان الرئة A٥٤٩ واستحثاث الموت الخلوي المبرمج Apoptosisمقارنة بالخط الخلوي الطبيعي REF الذي لم يكن للزيت العطري عليها تأثيرا يذكر ، فضلا عن تأثيره على نشاط أَغشية المايتوكوندريا للخلايا السرطانية والطبيعية وجين p٥٣.
أوصت الدراسة بضرورة اجراء بحوث مستقبلية لتأثير الزيت العطري لنبات خف الجمل المزروع بالعراق في علاج الأمراض الفيروسية والبكتيرية .كما حثت الدراسة على دراسة التأثير السُمي للزيت العطري في خلايا سرطانية اخرى وتحديد الأَكثر فعالية منها في هذا الاتجاه .

The College of Science for Women at the University of Baghdad examineda master’s thesis entitled ” A study on the biological activity of the volatile oil of Bauhinia variegata L. flowers in Iraq“, presented by the postgraduate student Asawer Talib Awaed as a requirement for the degree of Master of Science in Biology/ Botany. The study was supervised by Assist. Prof. Dr. Hadeel Maki Habib.
The study focused on the role of active compounds found in volatile oil extracted from Bauhinia variegata flowers in various biological activities as an antioxidant and anti-cancer by comparing them with control groups, as the study showed the ability of volatile oil to scavenge free radicals because it contains phenolic and terpenes active compounds as an antioxidant compared to control compounds (Ascorbic acid and Trolex).
The study included the effect of the volatile oil in inhibiting the growth of cancer cells, as statistically significant differences appeared that proved its inhibitory ability for lung cancer (A549) and induced apoptosis cell death compared to the normal cell line (REF), , as well as its effect on the activity of mitochondria on which the volatile oil did not have a significant effect. membranes of cancer cells, normal and p53 gene.
The study recommended the need for future research on the effect of the volatile oil of the Bauhinia variegata plant cultivated in Iraq in the treatment of viral and bacterial diseases.
