لم تكن عملية تدقيق المعلومات يوماً عملية سهلة. اليوم، مع التطور التكنولوجي الهائل والانتشار الكثيف للصور والفيديوهات المفبركة وما يسمّى التزييف العميق، أصبحت هذه العملية أصعب وأعقد بكثير. تبدأ عملية تدقيق المعلومات بالشك المبني على الحس النقدي، إذ يعمل مدقق/ة المعلومات ضمن منهجية واضحة ومحددة، ترسم مسار التدقيق منذ بدايته حتى نهايته. وخلال العمل، يستخدم مدقق/ة المعلومات العديد من الأدوات التي تساعده في عملية التثبت من المعلومات، خاصةً عندما تكون صورة، أو فيديو، أو حساباً على السوشيال ميديا
Fact-checking has never been an easy process. Today, with the tremendous technological development and the widespread use of fabricated images, videos, and so-called deep fakes, this process has become much more difficult and complex.
