Unlike metallic implants, polymeric implants have an elastic modulus similar to bone, reducing the adverse reactions of metallic implants. Polyetherketoneketone (PEKK); a high-performance thermoplastic polymer, has an additional ketone group, resulting in improving polarity and backbone stiffness. Nevertheless, PEKK hydrophobicity and inertness prevent it from adhering firmly to bone.
