The term "temporomandibular disorder" (TMD) refers to any musculoskeletal and neuromuscular disorders affecting the masticatory muscular system, the temporomandibular joint (TMJ), and the near by surrounding structures.
Both intra-articular and extra-articular TMD fall under these categories. A headache, earache, facial pain, and jaw pain are typical symptoms. The biological, environmental, social, emotional, and cognitive triggers for TMD are among its multiple etiological factors. The history and physical examination are the two main sources of diagnosis.
