Radiology plays an important role in the diagnosis and management of bowel diseases. The most common imaging modalities used in the evaluation of bowel diseases are computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and ultrasound (US). CT is the gold standard imaging modality for the evaluation of bowel diseases because it can provide detailed images of the bowel, including the wall thickness, mucosal pattern, and presence of any complications, such as abscesses, fistulas, or strictures. MRI is a valuable tool for the evaluation of bowel diseases because it can provide better soft tissue contrast than CT, which can be helpful in the diagnosis of inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD), such as Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. US can be used as a rapid bedside screening tool to assess for bowel wall thickening or free fluid in the abdomen or pelvis.
Objectives:
To know the main radiological tools used to investigateboweldiseases .
To know the common radiological findings in these diseases.
To know the role of imaging in these diseases.
The target audience for the lecture on radiological tips in bowel diseases includes all teaching staff at Alkindy College of Medicine and Alkindy Hospital who are involved in the care of patients with bowel diseases. This includes radiologists, gastroenterologists, surgeons, nurses, and paramedics. The lecture will be presented in a format that is appropriate for all levels of medical education, and it will include both didactic and hands-on components.
