Description
radiological imaging plays a vital role in the diagnosis and management of abdominal trauma. The most common imaging modalities used in the evaluation of abdominal trauma are computed tomography (CT) and ultrasound (US). CT is the gold standard imaging modality for the evaluation of abdominal trauma because it can provide detailed images of the abdomen and pelvis, including the liver, spleen, kidneys, pancreas, and bowel. US can be used as a rapid bedside screening tool to assess for free fluid in the abdomen or pelvis. If free fluid is identified, CT is typically performed to further evaluate the extent of injury.
The goal of the lecture on the role of radiological imaging in abdominal trauma is to provide teaching staff at Alkindy College of Medicine and Alkindy Hospital with the knowledge and skills they need to use radiological imaging to diagnose and manage patients with abdominal trauma.
Trauma causes I0% of deaths worldwide, Trauma is the leading cause of death under the age of forty.
Appropriate evaluation of trauma patients is essential to avoid serious morbidity and mortality.
Although the physical examination is still vital in the initial assessment of these patients, some studies have shown sensitivity in the range of only 55% to 65% in the setting of blunt abdominal trauma.
Furthermore, patients who show no obvious signs of trauma or physical examination findings (such as a seat belt sign, abdominal tenderness, or guarding) may still have significant internal organ injury.
Therefore, imaging has come to play a critically important role in trauma diagnosis and management.
The target audience for the lecture on the role of radiological imaging in abdominal trauma includes all teaching staff at Alkindy College of Medicine and Alkindy Hospital who are involved in the care of patients with abdominal trauma. This includes emergency physicians, surgeons, radiologists, nurses, and paramedics. The lecture will be presented in a format that is appropriate for all levels of medical education, and it will include both didactic and hands-on components.
